We invite you to the workshop “The Sermilik Station from an Arctic Perspective”, which will take place on 27–28 May 2026 at the University of Graz.
The Sermilik Research Station in Southeast Greenland, operated by the Institute of Geography and Regional Science at the University of Graz, is Austria’s only Arctic research facility. The workshop brings together international researchers, station partners, and early-career scientists to discuss the next decade of interdisciplinary Arctic research at the station – with scientific foci including glaciology, meteorology, oceanography, biogeochemistry, geomorphology, infrastructure, and international collaboration.
Keynote speakers include Fiamma Straneo (Harvard), Søren Rysgaard (Aarhus / CIFAR), Sebastian Mernild (SDU / Bergen), Jacob Yde (HVL Sogndal), Anders Bjørk (Copenhagen), Leigh Stearns (UPenn), and Lauren Andrews (NASA).
The programme is further supported by several research groups from the Austrian Polar Research Institute (APRI) and includes additional impulse talks on Arctic ecology, palaeoenvironment, satellite communication, and the social dimensions of polar research.
Most parts of the workshop are public and open to researchers, students, partners, and media professionals interested in Arctic research. Participation is free of charge, and the language of the workshop is English. Please register by 22 May 2026.
