Short Biography Dr. Saskia de Wildt

Dr Saskia de Wildt is a researcher and artist/creator in the field of environmental post-humanities/Science and Technology/International Development Studies. They are interested in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary practice-based research with a focus on decolonial, cross-cultural, relational ethics. Their practice is guided by Indigenous scholarship, performance philosophy, queer theory/trans studies, and leans on creative methods like participatory filmmaking, sensory mapping, collaging and diy/punk/minor key publishing.

Saskia holds a master’s degree in International Development Studies (2015) from the University of Amsterdam and a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies (2025) from Queen’s University, Canada. They have been conducting community-based fieldwork since 2015. First in the Eastern Himalayas, and from 2021 onwards in Nunavut, Canada. With support of a Canadian Graduate Vanier Scholarship, their PhD research focussed on the material and practical dimensions of ethical space, process and practice within community polar bear monitoring.

Saskia is currently an affiliate scholar at the Research Institute for Sustainability / GFZ in Potsdam, and a lecturer at the Cultural Anthropology & Development Sociology at Leiden University in the Netherlands. They are also writing about how queer forms of shapeshifting can be implemented as a method to reflect on day-to-day relational practices within (Arctic) sustainability and conservation sciences.
