Die Reaktion der polaren Eismassen auf den Klimawandel und ihr Beitrag zum Meeresspiegel ist ein Hauptanliegen der Klimaforschung. Neben dem grönländischen Inlandeis ist eine große Anzahl von Gletschern und Eiskappen in Küstennähe Grönlands offensichtlich relevant. Wir untersuchen die Reaktion dieser Gletscher und Eiskappen in Grönland sowohl durch umfangreiche Messungen als auch durch Modellierungsversuche der Oberflächenenergie- und Massenbilanz. Ein weiteres Thema unserer Forschung ist die Verbesserung des Verständnisses der Mechanismen, die für die katastrophalen Ausbruchsfluten der eisgestauten Seen in Grönland relevant sind.
