CBC on Saxinger and Gartler’s Mobile Workers Guide

APRIs Susa Gartler and Gertrude Saxinger recently published their Mobile Workers Guide, a handbook on FIFO (“fly-in/fly-out”) and DIDO (“drive-in/drive-out) rotational shift work in the Canadian Arctic. The guide is part of the project “LACE – Labour mobility and community participation in the extractive industries:– Yukon”.

APRI Annual Meeting 2017

The APRI Annual Meeting in Innsbruck was a great success. In 18  talks, the state of the art of Austrian polar research was presented. Furthermore, our colleague from the Swiss Polar Institute gave a presentation on Swiss polar research. In a public talk, environmental toxicologist Günter Köck talked about climate research in the Canadian Arctic. On the evening of November 9th, the exhibition FORTITUDO. Shackleton’s Antarctic Expedition in the Endurance was opened by Roland Psenner, president of EURAC and the artist Paola Folicaldi Suh.

On November 9th, the APRI has the pleasure of inviting to the opening of the exhibition  FORTITUDO. Shackleton´s Antarctic Expedition in the Endurance 1914-1917. The artist Paola Folicaldi Suh will be present at the event.

With the exhibition Fortitudo, Italian painter Paola Folicaldi Suh brings new life to the dramatic history of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s expedition to the Antarctic in the Endurance during 1914-1917. Folicaldi devoted more than two years to studying the expedition and evoking the spirit and atmosphere through an epic painting cycle.

The vernissage takes place in the Claudiana in Innsbruck (Herzog-Friedrich-Str. 3, Innsbruck) on November 9th from 7-9.30 pm.

There is free admission to the exhibition, and it can be visited from November 9th to November 27th.

APRI Annual Meeting 2017

The annual meeting of the Austrian Polar Research Institute will take place from November 9th to November 10th in the Claudiana in Innsbruck. There will be a diverse scientific programme, in which the working groups will present their current and future projects. Furthermore, our colleagues from the Swiss Polar Research Institute will present their organization.
